THE INTERVENTION

An Influential Generation (AIG) is a school-based peer education intervention that engages youth influencers (peer leaders) in high schools and peer learners in middle schools and elementary schools. AIG adopts a relational approach to increasing peer support within the school system to encourage conversations around substance use and informed decision-making. The intervention targets this population at a crucial stage of development to equip them with critical thinking skills that will benefit them through life.

The youth influencers are supported by virtual and in-person training tools and are accompanied by an adult mentor to facilitate 45-minute sessions in classrooms.

There are two versions of AIG: 1) A Conversation about Vaping, and 2) A Conversation about Alcohol.
